I used to think that I was a “good guy.” Heck, I even had the sweat-shirt to prove it. (Actually, I won this shirt many years ago, when I was sixteen, from a local radio station in New York City.)
Not knowing what the scriptures taught on the subject of salvation, I used to think that because I was a good guy that “If anyone was going to Heaven, it would be me.” Boy, was I mistaken. I know better now, simply because I believe what God revealed to us in the Bible. If you will allow me, I'd like to pass that information on to you. It won't take long, I promise. If you'll read this, at least you too will know that no one goes to Heaven because they are “good.”
The Bible says, “There are none that doeth good, no not one.” (Romans 3:12)
Imagine that! In God's eyes, no one is good.
Lest you think that I'm pulling this verse out of context, I will quote the whole paragraph...
“...[W]e have before proved both Jews and Gentiles, that they are all under sin; As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one. Their throat is an open sepulchre; with their tongues they have used deceit; the poison of asps is under their lips: Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness: Their feet are swift to shed blood: Destruction and misery are in their ways: And the way of peace have they not known: There is no fear of God before their eyes.” (Romans 3:9-18)
What an awful indictment on mankind from a holy God!
Man (without God) is no good. But, because God (Himself) is good, He wants to make us good enough to go to Heaven. That's a fair statement, wouldn't you say, especially since it's His Heaven? Let's face it, wouldn't a good God only want good people to live with Him forever in Heaven? Saint Paul said, “without...” [holiness] “...no man shall see the Lord.” (Hebrews 12:14) In other words, the only way for a man or woman to go to Heaven is to become “holy,” and since we are all born sinners and none of us are good in and of ourselves, we need God's help to do it. He pleads with us...
"Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool. Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not." (Isaiah 1:18; Jeremiah 33:3)
Okay, I promised you that I wouldn't be long and I'm keeping my word. For those of you that desire to know more about salvation, please, click the smiley face, below...
