Saint Peter... The First Pope

Posted on 8 December, 2011 at 14:35

If Peter was the first pope…

He was married. (I Corinthians 9:5; Peter was also called Cephas—John 1:42; Matthew 8:14)

He was a circumcised Jew. (Galatians 2:14)

He believed the only way to Heaven was to be saved by grace through faith (Acts 15). He wrote in his first epistle…

“Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot…” I Peter 1:18-19

Like Jesus (John 3:1-7), he believed that a man had to be born-again, in order to go to Heaven. (I Peter 1:23)

He believed that everyone could read the Bible on their own and the Scripture was above hearing the very voice of God. (II Peter 1:16-25)

He denied the Lord Jesus. (Matthew 16:21-22)

Jesus called him Satan. (Matthew 16:23)

Even after Christ’s crucifixion, he worked as a commercial fisherman. (John 21:1-8)

He cursed and swore, when Satan filled his heart (Luke 22:31), to deny Jesus on His way to the cross (Matthew 26:74).

Paul had to straighten out Peter’s (Cephas—John 1:42) doctrine. (Galatians 2:9-14)

Peter refused to listen to God. (Acts 10:14-16)

He wouldn’t let a man bow down to him. “But Peter took him up, saying, Stand up; I myself also am a man.”  (Acts 10:25-26)
