God has to bring us all to the end of ourselves, before any of us are willing to do it His way. We are all like that ...just plain stubborn. And, none of us—yea, even the best of us—will do it God's way until we are brought face to face with the mud puddle that's expertly prepared for us by the One we love and worship.
