Boaz Baptist Chronicles

I've heard it said, on more than one occasion, that “in type” (in this case, “the type” precedes the actual person) David is a type of Christ in that he has three distinct offices: prophet, priest and king.
It's clear that David is a prophet (Psalm 110 for example) and, obviously, he was the second King in Israel, but, what throws me off is his priesthood. How is he a ''priest?'' Does this have something to do with the Melchizedek priesthood ("The LORD hath sworn, and will not repent, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchizedek." Psalms 110:4 and Hebrews 7:17)? It is also "...evident that our Lord sprang out of Juda; of which tribe Moses spake nothing concerning priesthood..." (Hebrews 7:14) and so did DAVID!!! (I Chronicles 2:1-15)
Well, it seems like, I must have answered my own question from the beginning.
With your permission I will elaborate more on my answer, as I figure it out...
Being that (GOD!!! SAID) David was “a man after” His “own heart” (I Samuel 13:14, Acts 13:22), He (GOD!!!) gave him (David) not ONLY the “sure mercies of David” (Acts 13:34), but he also PREFIGURED, IN TYPE, the priest/king that would be born from his (own) loins...
“...Concerning his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, which was made of the seed of David according to the flesh...” Romans 1:3
“It is evident that our Lord sprang out of Juda; of which tribe Moses spake nothing concerning” [the Aaronic] “priesthood.” (Hebrews 7:14) But, in the same breath David came out of the same TRIBE as our Lord, since our Lord was in his loins! ...JUDAH.... (I Chronicles 2:1-15)
...when someone points out that David had ALL three offices (respectively: Prophet, PRIEST [the subject at hand] and King), David fits the bill perfectly as long as we consider that his life PREFIGURES the coming Messiah (who would have fulfilled all THREE offices HIMSELF, when He returns as "King of kings").
The Priesthood [the subject at hand] is PREFIGURED IN TYPE. David (unlike Saul who intrudes into the LEVITICAL priesthood by offering up a sacrifice and is punished by his dethronement), is ALLOWED to wear an ephod—reserved only for the high priest (Exodus 28), and eats holy bread (I Samuel 21:6, Matthew 12:4), also reserved ONLY for the priesthood. (Leviticus 24:5-9. Especially, verse 9)
REMEMBER: Melchizedek and Christ BOTH had “bread and wine” as the representations of their express [Hebrews 1:3—used here as an expression, meaning “denoted”] ministries. Christ's (bread and wine) was seen at the last supper (Mark 14:22-25), sure. But let's NOT forget His statement in John six...
“31 Our fathers did eat manna in the desert; as it is written, He gave them bread from heaven to eat. 32 Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Moses gave you not that bread from heaven; but my Father giveth you the true bread from heaven. 33 For the bread of God is he which cometh down from heaven, and giveth life unto the world. 34 Then said they unto him, Lord, evermore give us this bread. 35 And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.
Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you. 54 Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day. 55 For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed. 56 He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and I in him. 57 As the living Father hath sent me, and I live by the Father: so he that eateth me, even he shall live by me. 58 This is that bread [like David ate] which came down from heaven: not as your fathers did eat manna, and are dead: he that eateth of this bread shall live for ever. (Note: This BREAD and wine... will be like THE EVERLASTING PRIEST'S bread—HE, who was after the order of Melchizedek, who will offer it FOREVER to those who join him in that priesthood. [THE subject at hand.])
By the way, DAVID (who prefigured the Messiah's coming ministry during his lifetime: namely, Prophet, PRIEST and King) will sit on the throne in EARTHLY Jerusalem just as Jesus (who was a prophet, is a PRIEST today and tomorrow, a King) will sit on His throne in NEW Jerusalem.
