I'm Right and You Are Wrong!

"It is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent. Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the disputer of this world? Hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?" 1 Corinthians 1:19-20

Much to my chagrin, I've seen a lot of Christians fighting, lately. Especially, in the area of creation—"the gap" proponents verses the "six day only" proponents. (No, we weren't there in the beginning, but neither were you!) What ever side you hold to—and, everyone knows, my side is right, and your side is wrong—never forget one thing. "Ye are brethren." The reason we are fighting in the first place, is because, thank God, we have been saved, and are all Bible-BELIEVERS. All we can do is go by the light that God gives us, the light we have TODAY. No more. If God reveals subsequent truth on a particular subject, thank Him for his mercy, and go on. If someone is interested in what you have to say—and, who are you, anyway?— teach it to those who have listening ears.

Do you think Jesus spent His days and hours trying to shove truth down Pharisaical throats? Not me. In fact, when they wouldn't listen, do you know what he did? He spoke to them in parables. (He didn't make it easier for them, He made it harder!) Jesus never "fought" anyone. We even make up songs about it. Remember, "He COULD HAVE called ten thousand angels...?"

I know we are "Pauline," and everyone knows he disputed in the market, daily. (Acts 19:17—also see Acts 9:29) But, the question comes in, why did he dispute, in the first place? Paul disputed to get their attention, so he could preach "...unto them Jesus and the resurrection." (Acts 19:19) He didn't do it, just to prove his point.

Even "Michael the archangel, when contending with the devil he disputed about the body of Moses, durst not bring against him a railing accusation, but said, The Lord rebuke thee." (Jude 9)

The only other place in (New Testament) Scripture where we find someone disputing is Mark 9:33. "And he came to Capernaum: and being in the house he asked them, What was it that ye disputed among yourselves by the way?" The answer was revealed, in the very next verse. "But they held their peace:..." (They held their peace, because they knew that they were wrong, in what was going on. So, they shut their mouths.) "…for by the way they had disputed among themselves, who should be the greatest." The only reason for THAT dispute is because someone wanted to prove themselves better than their brother. In a word, pride. Do you know how Jesus dealt with their childish ambition? Verse thirty-five. "And he sat down, and called the twelve, and saith unto them, If any man desire to be first, the same shall be LAST of all, and SERVANT of all."

May God use us, and bless us all, as we seek to serve Him.
