“Oh My God”

Jesus said it first!...

“I delight to do thy will, O my God: yea, thy law is within my heart.” Psalms 40:8, Hebrews 10:9

Society’s estrangement from God has made it very fashionable these days to break His commandments. Whether anyone knows it or not, using the phrase “Oh my God”, other than the way Jesus used it, actually breaks the third commandment…

“Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain; for the Lord will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.” Exodus 20:7

Jesus used the expression “O my God” from the delight He received in obeying His Father’s will. I seriously doubt that anyone using those words today are using them like He did. Let’s observe…

Wounded and bleeding - blood flowing from His side - dying for sinners - His love He did not hide. “My God, my God,” He cried from the tree - crucified! - alone - smitten for me.

Delighted in His Father’s will, Jesus - obedient unto death - bore His judgment against sin - our sin.

Friend, we’ve all broken God’s law in some way. That’s why we all need to be saved. Taking God’s name in vain only proves we have an evil heart and are guilty of transgressing His LAW. “For sin (any sin) is the transgression of the law.” In God’s eyes, breaking even one commandment is equal to breaking them all. “For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.” Sin must be paid for. That’s why Jesus came. He died and rose again to offer Eternal Life to all who receive Him by faith.

“But as many as received him (Jesus), to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His name.“ John 1:12

Lost Sinner, it’s your turn to obey God. Bow your head and admit to Him that you are a guilty sinner in need of Salvation. Be sorry for your sins. Repent (turn from sin), and invite Jesus into your heart as your personal Saviour.

“Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved.” Acts 16:31
